Women and little girls are mainly the ones that go every day in the search for water, which takes them time away from other tasks such as learning, working, or doing household chores. Not having water means a lack of sanitation but also education and self-development.

When we first got to Chamba-Dzana, another little village in the Benga region, we were so impressed to see how happy this community was, how much energy they all had, and how warmly they welcomed us. They were living on the edge, but still they had an amazing positive outlook and tried to take advantage of every little detail.

The community of Deleneka lived in an isolated rural area and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their families. Not only does this keep children out of school and take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water fetched often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.
